Season 2 – epiBLOG 12:

SEPTEMBER THEME – “TRANSFORMATION”

I often wonder why we are put in the same situations over and over again during the course of our lives. And I suppose the obvious answer is that we need to learn the lesson in the experience so that we don’t repeat the same behavior that puts us in the situation in the first place. Maybe that is the only answer.

Human beings tend to not make any sense whatsoever when it comes to our experiences with life itself. For example, we say that we want to be healthy and in shape, but we follow those words by swallowing a Big Mac with a large order of fries and a chocolate milkshake. We say that we want to be independently wealthy, but we take advice from people who have a ton of debt and a job they hate that doesn’t even afford them a great lifestyle. We say we love our wives, our husbands, our girlfriends, but then the first person that gives us any attention when we are feeling neglected in our relationships causes us to question the relationship, or worst, cross the line into the land of infidelity. We are a complex race.

How do we transform into a better version of ourselves? How do we become who we need to be so that when we leave this earth, we’re leaving a lasting impression that not only touches many lives, but teaches a lesson?

Artists can be complex. Especially filmmakers. Writers. Actors. We spend so much time in our heads that it sometimes can be very difficult to open our eyes and see the reality that is before us. The truth is, we have the power to choose the life that we want each day by making choices based on our experience, knowledge, and who we are.

If you know that eating at fast food restaurants is increasing your blood pressure, then choose to eat something differently. It still can taste good, but just make it a healthier option. If you want to know how to become independently wealthy, go speak with those people who are independently wealthy and find out first-hand what they did to materialize that into their lives. Read books on wealth creation. If you find yourself attracted and interested in someone other than your partner, have an open conversation with your partner about how you feel and the both of you can figure out together where the issue is stemming from. You can then decide to make a decision to work through the challenge together or that it’s simply time for you to move on. What you have to realize is that you have a choice. You don’t have to repeat the same mistakes or make the same decisions.

It’s almost as if life is like this never-ending film integrated with some video game feature that gives you options when approached by the same set of circumstances. This film/video game combo allows you to be faced with the challenges over and over again until you choose the option that allows you to be the best version of who you naturally are at your core.

Today’s LESSON is to reflect, evaluate, and learn from the situations that you find repeating themselves in your life.

FUN ASSIGNMENT: Think of an issue that you constantly deal with in your life. Write it down. Reflect on how you create the situation. Ask yourself what positive results you’re getting from repeating this experience. Ask yourself what negative results you’re getting from repeating this experience. Make a T-chart, listing the positive and negative results. Consider what you can do so that you can make a decision that helps you to be the best version of yourself. Brainstorm and write each idea down.
